Sommarvik as a name was created in 1927 when Årjäng got a new holiday camp for children. In the 1950's it was used as a school and in the end of the 1950's as a campsite.
In 1952 the holiday village Småfåglarna was built and the first caravans showed up.
Årjäng was very commited to the tourism industry and Sommarvik was upgraded to a campsite of good standards in 1968.
In 1974 the holiday village Rovfåglarna was built.
The Fransson family came to Sommarvik in 1980 and bought the property in 1986. This year Sommarvik went through extensive renovations. The trees where the sothern campsite is today was taken away and an entirely new campsite was created.
In 1992 the holiday villages Sjöfåglarna, Skogsfåglarna and the multiple family lodging Älgen were finished. Between 1993 and 1996 service houses, playgrounds, activities, restaurant and camping pitches were developed. The first adventue minigolf course in Sweden is also in place and the building of the holiday village Fiskarna is started.

In the year 2000 Sommarvik came to be one of the best in Sweden. This is when the outdoor swimming pool and the poolbar were built and the kitchen in the restaurant was renovated/rebuilt.
In 2001, five Camping Villas come in place, the reception/shop is renovated/rebuilt and a number of children's activities are created.
In 2002 the holiday village Småfåglarna are rebuilt. The Northern Season camping is created, the service hous Kjelle's is built as well as the Southern Season camping.
In 2007 the poolbar is renovated/rebuilt and the shop is expanded. New moorings for boats and new children's activities.
In 2009 a SPA with steam sauna, jacuzzi and hot tub is built.
The beach gets a makeover with a number of inflatable water activities.

Today, Årjäng Camping & Stugor Sommarvik is a strong five star resort with 6 holiday villages and a multiple family lodging, 6 service houses, restaurant, shop, center for renting canoes, kayaks, bicycles and more, swimming pool, beach with water activities, a number of playgrounds, Kids Club, adventure minigolf course and a large number of activities.
